History of the Nu Alpha Chapter

The Nu Alpha, located on the campus of Texas A&M University, was chartered on April 17, 1987 by Brother William Puder, Brother Anthony West, and the brothers of Fall 1986(NuKleus), under the advisory of Brother Keith Kinnebrew. Over the years, the chosen men of this chapter have continually strived for honorable achievement in every field of human endeavor. The chapter has established itself as a major organization on the campus of Texas A&M University.

Since its inception, the Nu Alpha has been actively involved in campus and community activities. These activities have included projects such as Adopt-A-Highway, Saturday School at Kemp, the annual $1000 Scholarships given to achieving African-American high school seniors in the Bryan-College Station area, Kappa Weeks, Greek Olympiad, Thanksgiving Turkey Drive, participation with the Boys and Girls Club, Lincoln Community Center, The Big Event, MSC Open House, food and Clothing drives, the annual Klean the Kommunity with Greek Unity, and continued campus programming on current issues affecting African Americans.

The Nu Alpha was awarded the 1994 Chapter of the Year for the Southwestern Province, which is the largest province in Kappa Alpha Psi. It was noted at the awards ceremony that Nu Alpha was the youngest and smallest chapter to earn this award. The chapter received this award again in 2003.

Additionally, members of the chapter have been greatly involved in the leadership of such campus organizations as SBSLC, MEDALS, ExCEL, Student Government, Pan-Hellenic Council, MBA, Pre-Law Society, MAPA, BAC, and The Corps of Cadets. The chapter has also been well represented on the Texas A&M Football team’s defense by starters Patrick Henry and Michael Hendricks and on the offense by 1988 starting quarterback Chris Osgood.
Members of The Nu Alpha have entered such professions as medicine, education, chemistry, engineering, journalism, business, and the military.

The Nu Alpha is committed to continuing this Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor.
